Archroma reveals non-aniline indigo dye for denim
16-06-2018
At present, aniline impurities are inevitable in the production of denim-dyed indigo. Unlike other chemical impurities, aniline is held in the indigo pigment during the dyeing process and thus can not be washed out of the fabric.
Scientific tests show that aniline impurities are toxic to humans, causing skin allergies, major organ damage, and genetic predisposition, as well as cancer. Aniline is also toxic to aquatic organisms as 2/3 of the 400 cubic meters of annual aniline waste is discharged into the environment through discharging wastewater. This toxic chemical is therefore starting to be included in the Restricted Substances List (RSL) of a number of major clothing and retail brands.
"We tested denim garments and found that aniline levels were often higher than expected," said Alexander Wessels, CEO of Archroma. This may cause some manufacturers to exceed the limits agreed upon in the restricted substance lists. At Archroma, we continually challenge this status with deep conviction that we can make the industry sustainable. By removing harmful impurities from the denim supply chain, we aim to protect workers who are denim makers, denim wearers and the environment with cleaner water. "
Denisol Pure Indigo 30 is the latest in a range of durable innovative denim products starting in 2009. That year, Archroma introduced "Advanced Denim Technology" using 90% less water during dyeing. . For designers and brand owners who longed for authentic indigo inspiration, the Denisol Pure Indigo 30 dye makes it possible to produce indigo-dyed denims without high aniline content. . Archroma will produce the Denisol Pure Indigo 30 dye in the most sustainable way possible.
