Egypt's apparel exports rose 17 percent to $ 385 million in the first quarter of 2018

According to an Egyptian daily newspaper quoting data from the Export Council for Garments, garment exports from Egypt reached $ 385 million ($ 3.77 million) in the first quarter of 2018, an increase of 17. % of the export value of $ 330 million of the same period last year. In total exports in the first quarter of 2018, about 48 percent or $ 185 million of garments were exported to the United States, up 16 percent from $ 160 million in the same period in 2017.

Exports totaled US $ 129 million, US $ 133 million and US $ 123 million in January, February and March respectively, up from $ 104 million, $ 110 million, and $ 116 million in the same month. last year.

If the current trend continues, the Council hopes to reach $ 1.8 billion this year.

The Egyptian apparel industry is also expected to benefit from the recent recent agreement by the African Free Trade Area (ACFTA), as it will promote Egyptian apparel exports to other African countries. including South Africa.
