Teijin developed a cooling vest for firefighters

20-11-2017

Teijin has developed a cooler vest designed to protect firefighters with heat resistance, fire retardancy and unmatched body heat, including the use of small electric fans. The company has revealed the cooling vest at the A + A 2017 exhibition in Messe Dusseldorf (Germany), which will be held October 17-20.

Cooling vents are said to reduce the body temperature effectively and rate heat through sweat absorption, fast drying and moisture removal. Electric fans will absorb air from the outside for up to 8 hours.

According to the company, "traditional fire retardant clothing for firefighters tends to retain body heat, increasing the risk of heat stroke, especially in the summer. The cooling vents help firefighters maintain efficiency and power levels during firefighting, as well as benefit from increased comfort and flexibility. "

The outermost layer of the fabric is made of Tejinconnex fiber, a meta-aramid fiber that is heat-resistant and flame retardant. The inner and outer layers are made of high-performance polyester fabric for sweat absorption, quick drying and moisture removal.

Teijin will be selling head warmers in the European protective clothing market from the spring of 2018, in collaboration with LHD Group Deutschland, a supplier of protective clothing and clothing for professional use.

In the future, Teijin plans to integrate a cooler vest in the intelligent protection system that Teijin has recently developed as a total safety solution to prevent the risk of heat stroke.
